Mohenjo Daro has turned out to be a disappointing outing for Hrithik Roshan, if the Day One is any indication. The signs were all there when the promo was unveiled. With a negative response to it, it was a very difficult road ahead for the film to see a rousing reception for itself at the Box Office.
Still, there was hope that if the film turns out to be hugely entertaining, the promo response would be diluted by the end of Day One. The makers must have kept their fingers crossed to gauge the response that eventually came their way.

However, that was not the case to be as Friday collections came to a low number of 8.87 crore. Even with low expectations, one would have assumed a better number for the Ashutosh Gowariker film. As a matter of fact it was predicted in this column that at least 10 crore were pretty much on the cards. When even that didn’t happen, it was quite depressing since it is quite apparent that a lot of sweat and blood has gone into making this film which boasts of a wide canvas. Yes, poor VFX did it in too but still, from an overall vision perspective, the makers were trying to tell a new and different tale.

Nonetheless, now it all boils down to a remarkable turnaround that the film needs, and that too in three days flat, given the long weekend. Though it is a tough task indeed, that’s the only hope that this multi-crore affair carries, given its huge budget.
Personally for Hrithik Roshan, the film marks his lowest opening ever since one can remember. This is how his last few films have performed on the opening day:
Bang Bang – 27.54 crore
Agneepath – 23 crore
Krrish 3 – 19 crore
Kites – 10 crore
Mohenjo Daro – 8.75 crore
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – 8 crore
Guzaarish – 3.82 crore
The only film of his that actually soared despite a low opening was Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. That movie gained though from very good word of mouth amongst the multiplex audience. Even Kites, which had a better opening that Mohenjo Daro, couldn’t sustain after Friday. It has to be seen how Mohenjo Daro fares now.
