Koimoi’s Half-Yearly Verdict: We’ve already come halfway of 2019, and the ticket windows have witnessed storms multiple times now. Starting from Uri: The Surgical Strike which surpassed every single expectation and turned out to be the most profitable movie of all time, to the recent Kabir Singh which is enjoying its glorious run – what a first half as it been for Bollywood!

Out of almost 30 Bollywood movie released till now, below are the 5 that turned out to be the biggest surprises of 2019:

Uri – The Surgical Strike

Based on the 2016 Surgical Strikes, Uri was made on a budget of around 25 crores and starred Vicky Kaushal in lead. Even director Aditya Dhar wasn’t expecting the verdict that came out – a mammoth 244.06 crores at the box office. A clean super-hit, that turned heads towards the theatre screens and how!

Gully Boy

A European cinema, like most people, call it. It was based on the rap culture and the under-rated rappers of our country like Divine and Naezy. Not only was Ranveer Singh & Alia Bhatt’s performance critically acclaimed, Zoya Akhtar’s direction along with the audio jukebox received massive love too! Gully Boy earned 139.38 crores in its lifetime, another surprising super hit of 2019!

Badla

Starring Amitabh Bachchan & Taapsee Pannu in lead, Badla was the official remake of the Spanish crime thriller, The Invisible Guest. Continuing the legacy of last year’s AndhaDhun which belonged to the same genre, Badla turned out to be a super hit at the box office with whopping collections of 88.02 crores.

The Tashkent Files

Least expected of all, a movie made on a budget of just 4 crores, but went onto earn profits in the range of 318.75%. The Vivek Agnihotri directorial was the 4th surprising super hit in the line with 16.75 crores as its lifetime collections.

Kabir Singh

We wonder if there’s an explanation even required. Starring Shahid Kapoor & Kiara Advani, nothing starting from rains to protests to World Cup 2019 could affect its collections. Each and every single day since the release of the movie on 21st January witnessed glorious numbers and it just won’t stop. 181.57 crores* at the box office in 10 days and much more to come!
