Join UsOne of the best weekends awaits Bollywood buffs as three interesting films arrive together – 3G, Jolly LLB and Mere Dad Ki Maruti. The best part about these releases is that they belong to diverse genres and promise to be carrying good stories. Moreover, they are arriving with decent buzz, albeit a tad varied, behind them. In fact on paper, none of the three films can be (or for that matter should be) chosen over another since they are coming with right intention without seeming like a proposal project in the offering. All of this means that for a true film buff, it is pretty much a bonanza to be savoured.
However, one waits to see whether each of the three films indeed manages to survive the clash. After all, business does get divided when there are two films coming with each other and in this case there are three. The good thing here is that since each of these films is a mid-budget affair, there won’t be mayhem around the screen space since the print count would be under control. This means that all films would pretty much have their designated place under the sun and the verdict would lie solely with the audience.
None of these films is looking at taking the box office by storm though since they are the kind which grows over the weekend. 3G is aimed at multiplex audience and should find youth as an audience. Of course the combination of horror, sex and good music should lead to footfalls in single screen audience. But due to the core subject of the film, it is more of an urban affair.
Jolly LLB has seen some good hype build up for itself and should take its best start in North due to its local flavour. It goes without saying that the film would be the best opener ever for an Arshad Warsi solo. Also, with buzz around the film’s content being good, it should find family audience gathering for itself too. It carries potential to be a film that can survive for 3-4 weeks.
On the other hand Mere Dad Ki Maruti has an interesting premise though one just feels that the promotion could have been much stronger. In the times when ‘young’ films like ABCD – Any Body Can Dance and Kai Po Che! are making a killing, it would be unfair for this seemingly fun film to not find an optimal audience due to limited visibility and clash.
All in all, while the opening for these three films should be in 30%-40% zone, evening and night shows would pretty much decide which way the overall outcome is headed towards.
