2) Domestically (In the US) it was only behind The Dark Knight which was a sensation that year. Iron Man did a business of $318 million in the US compared to $531 million of The Dark Knight. The Robert Downey Jr. starrer was 2nd highest grosser of that year domestically.

3) Iron Man gave Robert Downey Jr. the kind of success he was looking for a long time. The film proved to be his top grosser at that time and is still his 8th highest grosser of all time. Iron Man’s worldwide lifetime business is more than his Sherlock Holmes’ films and only behind IM sequels and other Avengers films.
