While Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala epitomized doom, adding a newer meaning to worst case scenario, the film by some fluke still manages to rake up some money at the overseas box office still. Despite strong competitors, Chashme Baddoor, Ek Thi Daayan and Nautanki Saala by its side, Himmatwala must indeed be blessed to still feature in the same frame.
Ajay Devgn starrer Himmatwala released to an overtly cold response at most places for its tacky treatment. Yet a fluorescently colored Bollywood film with its 80s element of dancing around the trees, makes it an exotic-animal in the zoo piece, hard to be missed. The film is running at 2 screens in U.K and Ireland and has managed to collect £ 30 in its fourth weekend, and has earned a total of £ 2,21,336 [Rs. 1.82 crores] from that circuit. In the North America circuit, the film barely managed to stand on its feet this weekend earning $133 and a total of $ 2,70,880 [Rs. 1.47 crores]. The film definitely scores for being one of biggest dismal failures at the overseas box office. But if someone has watched the film, they’ll clear be envious of those who intelligently gave it a miss!

Just when Himmatwala had almost convinced people that remakes were an atrocious idea, David Dhawan’s Chashme Baddoor which was a laughter riot continues to perform well in almost all major international circuits. Running in 6 screens in U.K and Ireland, the film in its third weekend earned £ 2,542 and raked up a total of £ 1,07,507 [Rs. 88.36 lacs]. In North America, the total collections there stand at $ 2,53,529 [Rs. 1.37 crores]. However, in Australia, the film was running at only 1 screen and still performed pleasantly well by earning A$972 this weekend alone, reaching their total in the circuit to A$63,236[Rs. 35.13 lacs].
Nautanki Saala which was the official remake of the French masterpiece Apres Vous, the film has had erratic earnings since Day 1. While many saw the imagination in the film’s plot, most agreed that the execution wasn’t satisfactory. In the second weekend, the film in the U.K and Ireland circuit made £ 2,237 from 5 screens, reaching their total in that arena to £ 19,017 [Rs. 15.63 lacs] which isn’t a great figure. In North America, the film performed marginally better with their total catapulting to $ 1,27,844 [Rs. 69.31 lacs].
