Rani Mukerji’s Hichki has undoubtedly become one of the most profitable films of 2018. Naina, the protagonist of the film has touched the hearts of moviegoers across the country with her optimistic attitude. Receiving rave reviews from its audience and critics alike, Hichki has become a trailblazer for small budget films at the Box Office, just like Newton and Bareilly Ki Barfi.
With its 5th week coming to an end, Hichki has surpassed all predictions set by trade pundits, who expected the film to earn around 30 crores throughout its run. However, the film might get washed out of the theatre by Avengers Infinity War, which releases today.
In its 5th week, Hichki managed to collect a sum of 1.05 crores, a great number for a film at this stage of its run. Its current total stands at 45.60 crores. Hichki is currently being shown on 244 screens.
Despite facing competition from films like Baaghi 2, Raid and Blackmail, the Rani Mukerji starrer hasn’t been swept away at the box office. Targeted at a niche audience, the film was never expected to become such a hit. Additionally, the film was made on a budget of 20 crores, which it recuperated through its non-theatrical rights like music, television and online. This means the film has making profits since day one on the silver screen.

Talking about the impact of the film in an interview with Filmfare, Rani said, “Mardaani, which was my film just before this movie also received a lot of positive and overwhelming response but the kind of response I’m getting for Hichki is making me remember the reactions that I got during Black.”
The movie is also a subtle reminder about stigma that exists in our society around mental health, and how deeply ingrained it has become in our daily lives. Progressive, brave and positive, the movie is about the power of will and determination.
