With the commencement of Diwali, the year’s most anticipated film is all set to hit the theaters. Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff in lead roles is the out and out commercial drama that is slated to release this Diwali weekend. After Bang Bang and Haider made an excellent business on the extended weekend, the same is expected from Happy New Year too. Or even better!
Considering a Shah Rukh Khan film which is a Diwali release, the expectations from Happy New Year are sky high. Shah Rukh’s last year’s Diwali release was Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Although considering that Jab Tak Hai Jaan released with a tough competition of Son Of Sardaar, it opened with a decent collection of 15 crores. But considering that Happy New Year has no competition in Bollywood, the film is expected to open with over 30 crores. The release day being the first of Diwali, the film will pick up more on the second day and thus the second day may scale upto 40 crores which will be excellent. Also since SRK has a huge fan following overseas, the film will be pulling off a major business in the International circuits.

Looking at the craze that Happy New Year has created thanks to its trailers and the extravagance of the film, it seems that HNY will be maintaining a good run at the box office with a 100 crore figure in its first three days itself. SRK and Deepika have previously managed this feat with Chennai Express when the film reached 100 crores in 3.5 days whereas Dhoom 3 leads the top. Happy New Year is expected to remain steady over the first week with collections ranging in 15 crores. According to our estimation the film is expected to reach the coveted 200 crores in 10 days.
