Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire had a very good first week at the box office as 53.50 crores* came in. The film exceeded expectations in the first weekend as 37.60 crores. With this kind of number coming in, one would have expected that the momentum would continue right through and the 55 crores mark would be easily surpassed. However, as it happens with Hollywood films, there is always a drop during the weekdays. Surprisingly, this was not quite the case on Monday, though post that, it did dip a bit (on expected lines) with Thursday coming to 3 crores*.

The good part is that this is an open weekend for the Hollywood film, and no other notable movie is arriving. As a result, it has a free run at all major properties, especially at IMAX, 3D and 4DX, where the ticket rates are the highest. As a result, it should have a very good hold on the second weekend as well, and chances are that the drop would be only around 50% when compared to the first weekend. Post that, though, it would have 2 more days for a really open run since Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan will arrive and take over many premium screens.

Still, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has done the grind work in the first week itself, and the 75 crores mark would be crossed rather quickly. In fact, it would aim to do that by the close of the second weekend itself, but even if that doesn’t happen, then the milestone should be crossed before Eid.

Note: Box office numbers are based on estimates and various sources. Numbers have not been independently verified by Koimoi.
