Ek Thi Daayan: Opening Weekend Box Office Collections

Ek Thi Daayan despite an admirable concept dwindled off to a clichéd climax. The film has managed to squeeze out average reviews from most critics, opened to a normal collection of 6.24 crores on its opening day. Unexpectedly instead of rising, the film’s performance dropped over the weekend, striking a low on Saturday. Despite valiantly trying to pick up on Sunday, the film’s performance remained dis-satisfactory. Overall, the collections rest at an approximate of 17 crores now with very limited growth at the Domestic Box Office. The film earned most from the metropolitan cities of Delhi and Mumbai, including their suburbs. It also did well in the Punjab circuit.

Emraan Hashmi had four important releases in 2012 which was received with mixed reactions. Raaz 3 and Jannat 2 earned heavily in its opening weekend, estimated at 35 crores and 23 crores approx. Shanghai, despite a brilliant plot, has a slow opening weekend collection summed at 12.20 crores, whereas, Rush was an ultimate disaster both content and performance wise and rested at an opening weekend collection of 2.5 crores at the Domestic Box Office.

Huma Qureshi And Emraan Hashmi in Ek Thi Daayan Movie Stills

Most lauded as Emraan’s best performance, the film has been denied his rightful acclaim because of a dull Bollywood season peculiarly overshadowed by the ongoing IPL fever. Ek Thi Daayan has dampened the general expectations of a brilliant performance, which should have been the case. But a clichéd treatment towards the end put together with the cricket madness isn’t helping the witches’ cause here.
