Amid a lot of buzz, Dune 2 is all set to mark its grand arrival tomorrow in major parts of the globe. Going by early projections, the film is all set to take a fantastic start at the worldwide box office. Out of all the releases that we have seen so far this year, this one seems to be a huge affair, and if everything goes well, it might enter the elite club that has already been graced by Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, Margot Robbie’s Barbie and four other films. After the COVID wave, the consumption pattern among the audience has changed drastically. Despite a good pre-release buzz and content, many big films have failed to succeed.

In total, six films have managed to enter the $1 billion club at the worldwide box office. The list is topped by James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way Of Water, which is also the sole entrant of the $2 billion club. It did a business of $2.32 billion.

If we look at things that are happening around Dune 2, it feels like the film has got all the potential to hit it out of the park. Recently, Warner Bros. opted for a smart strategy by re-releasing the first installment and attaching an exclusive sneak peek of the sequel. That worked really well, and it helped in creating buzz, as the response was very impressive. For now, projections are suggesting a start as huge as $170 million during the opening weekend.
Dune 2 will be played in premium formats like IMAX and 4DX, giving it an edge in box office collections. Also, early reviews are already out, and reports are highly positive, which hints that the film will stay in theatres for a long time. Besides these two factors, the Timothee Chalamet starrer is enjoying a rocking response in China’s pre-sales (where the film is scheduled to release on 8th March), which indicates that a big chunk of business might come from China.
