While everyone saw the bumper response coming in for the magnum opus, no one expected that it would cross the worldwide projection of $180 million for the opening weekend. This happened because the film exceeded expectations both in the domestic and overseas markets.

Dune 2 at the worldwide box office
As per the updated numbers, Dune 2 amassed a whopping $100 million in the overseas market during its extended opening weekend of 5 days. For those who don’t know, the Dune sequel made its international arrival last Wednesday and kept on adding more centers over Thursday and Friday, thus making an extended weekend from Wednesday to Sunday.
In a total of 71 circuits, the film earned $100 million and surpassed Oppenheimer‘s total of $98 million for the same period.
Talking about the North American box office, Dune 2 raked in $82.5 million during the opening weekend. Adding both domestic and overseas numbers, the collection at the worldwide box office stands at $182.5 million after the weekend. Now, as per trade reports, the film has already crossed the $200 million milestone with its first Monday run. That’s simply crazy!
Two main countries are yet to join the party!
Dune 2 is having a blast at the box office, and this party is going to get much bigger as a major market like China is yet to show its magic. Yes, the film isn’t playing in Chinese theatres yet, as it is scheduled to arrive in the country on 8th March. The pre-sales report for the opening weekend is out, and it hints at a rocking start at the Chinese box office.
In Japan, the Timothee Chalamet starrer is all set to mark its grand arrival on 15th March.
