Dune 2 is receiving an earth-shattering response at the box office. Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya have reprised their much-loved characters of Paul Atredes and Chani. The sequel has left behind its predecessor on almost every front. The streak of success now continues in China as sci-fi has left behind Aquaman 2, Free Guy, and many others. Dune: Part Two hit the theatres worldwide on March 1, 2024. The film exceeded expectations in the opening weekend. It also turned out to be the first $100 million grosser of 2024 at the US box office. Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya starrer has left behind the lifetime numbers of its predecessor in many countries. And the milestone is soon set to be unlocked in China.

As per the trade analyst Luiz Fernando, Dune 2 is expected to recreate history. It might be the first film in China to have achieved bigger opening weekend numbers than its predecessor in the post-Covid era. It has brought a massive $6 million on day 1 from around 60K screenings. The film is benefitting majorly from spot bookings.

About 52% of tickets brought were from spot bookings, while the remaining were from advance. Dune 2 has left behind the opening weekend numbers of Aquaman 2 ($5.1 million), brought from over 147K screens. It has also left behind Free Guy ($5.2 million).
It is all set to cross the opening weekend collections of Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania ($6.1 million). If that’s not enough, Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet are all set to surpass its predecessor. Dune (2019) had collected $6.3 million during its opening weekend in China. That milestone will be unlocked with a considerable margin.

Furthermore, Dune: Part Two is expected to score an opening weekend of around $23-30 million. If one considers the maximum earnings, that would be about 38% higher than the original film.
Th epic science-fiction film is directed and co-produced by Denis Villeneuve. Apart from Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem have reprised their characters.
Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, and Souheila Yacoub have joined the bandwagon in the sequel.
