For a film that has been released in just 1200 screens, Dear Zindagi is continuing to be stable at the Box Office. The film saw 3.25 crore being raked in on 1st Wednesday and with this the total so far stands at 44 crore now. The film would now be challenging the lifetime collections of following films:
Ki & Ka – 51.6 crore
Mohenjo Daro – 57.8 crore
Udta Punjab – 59.6 crore
Pink – 68 crore
Dishoom – 69.5 crore
While Ki & Ka is expected to be surpassed by this Saturday itself (if not earlier on Friday), Mohenjo Daro should be crossed before the end of second weekend. Post that, Udta Pujab too should be left behind by the coming Monday and post that there is good likelihood that Pink would be crossed in the third week.
If the film continues to trend the way it is doing, there is a good possibility that a much commercial film like Varun Dhawan’s Dishoom too could be surpassed by Dear Zindagi. Now that would be music to Karan Johar’s ears since his next release Badrinath Ki Dulhania features both Varun and Alia!
The film is a commercial success and has come in at just the right time when Bollywood could do with more successes under its belt. There are four major films up for release next – Kahaani 2, Befikre, Wajah Tum Ho and Dangal. One truly hopes that each of these turns out to be successful too, hence concluding 2016 on a high!
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
