There are certain films where the debate is whether they would turn out to be Superhits or Blockbusters at the Box Office. Salman Khan’s Sultan is one such film. While his star power has ensured that on Day One itself it is marching towards the Superhit status, Ali Abbaz Zafar’s story and direction gives a good indication that the film could well be moving towards being a Blockbuster no less.

The film has worked big time with the audience and if the word of mouth is any indication, it is definitely in for a bountiful in days to come.

As for the record breaking journey that the Yash Raj film was expected to take from the opening day, it is pretty much happening. Despite releasing on a day prior to Eid (in some parts of the country there was holiday though yesterday [Wednesday], the film has broken all records connected to the festive season. The film has brought in 36.54 crore and with this, it is now the biggest opening day ever in the history of Eid season releases.

Box Office – Salman Khan’s Sultan is BIGGEST Eid release ever

What is interesting though is that barring Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express, all other record making films have been Salman Khan starrers:

Sultan36.54 crore
Chennai Express33.1 crore
Ek Tha Tiger33 crore
Bajrangi Bhaijaan27.25 crore
Kick26.52 crore

While the opening day itself has pretty much given an indication that the lifetime total of Chennai Express, Ek Tha Tiger and Kick would be surpassed in quick time, the challenge for Sultan is to now go past Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The film Kabir Khan had started on a (strictly) relatively lower note but had shown amazing strength basis word of mouth to go past the 300 crore mark. That’s going to be the true test for the Ali Abbaz Zafar directed film which works well as a complete entertainer.
