Crew Box Office: Tabu, Kareena, Kriti Starrer Is Amongst Top-5 Biggest Weekend Openers For A Female Centric Film, Edges Past Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi

Tabu, Kareena Kapoor and Kriti Sanon have done it. Their film has gone beyond just the opening day bonanza and has now done consistently well right through the weekend as well. It has been a bountiful score for the film, allowing it to find a place amongst the Top-5 weekend openers of all time. Interestingly, three out of these have come post-pandemic – Gangubai Kathiawadi, The Kerala Story, and Crew, each of which belongs to a different genre. That said, while the first two in the list are hard-hitting dramas, its Crew, which is light-hearted.

In fact, there is more. If one looks at the entire Top 10, then it’s only Crew and Veere Di Wedding which are light-hearted whereas the remaining eight all are drama. The common factor between these two films? The same lead actress (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and two women producers (Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor). Rest assured, the team should now reunite to make a trilogy of such light-hearted films.

Here are the weekend/first 3-day numbers of the top 10 female centric films:

1. Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi – 42.55 crores
2. Gangubai Kathiawadi – 39.12 crores
3. Veere Di Wedding – 36.52 crores
4. The Kerala Story – 35.44 crores
5. Crew – 32.53 crores
6. Dear Zindagi – 32.50 crores
7. Raazi – 32.93 crores
8. The Dirty Picture – 32.70 crores
9. Mary Kom – 28 crores
10. Heroine – 25 crores

With Crew entering the list, Sunny Leone has lost her place in the Top 10. It was her Ragini MMS 2 [24.50 crores] which was at the 10th spot and that’s no more there. The successful opening of Crew also shows the kind of potential that women-centric films have if made well and if Farhan Akhtar indeed revives Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif starrer Jee Le Zara then it would indeed smash all records.
