Chhapaak Box Office: Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey’s Chhapaak after much anticipation has finally hit the theatre screens yesterday. DP is back to the big screen after a hiatus of almost 2 years, and the sensitive subject remains to be a genre she had never attempted before. While this Meghna Gulzar directorial has been receiving praises, seems like Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is stealing its thunder.

It was indeed known that Tanhaji would be having an upper hand, given the huge difference in the number of screens allotted to each of the films. But while the Ajay Devgn starrer passed its Day 1 with flying colours, Chhapaak remained only decent. As per the early trends flowing in, Deepika Padukone’s film has added 4-5 crores to its opening day collections, which remains under the bracket of our predictions.

Hopefully the weekend will see some kind of jump, and help the movie trend better amongst the audiences. Given the fact that the subject resonates with one and all, one expected a better response for this Laxmi Agarwal inspired film.

Meanwhile, The Samajwadi Party (SP) workers watched Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak at a multiplex in Lucknow on Friday while the Congress had put up posters supporting the film.

The move is aimed at expressing support to Deepika Padukone, who has been in the eye of storm after she visited the protesting students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday and came on the target of right wing activists.

A senior SP leader said: “We are also watching the film because our president Akhilesh Yadav has always been concerned about the problems of acid attack survivors. He, as chief minister, had set up the Sheroes Hangout cafe in Lucknow for acid attack survivors.”
