The domestic box office has refused to soar since the release of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The week after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag saw the release of Nikhil Advani’s gritty thriller D-Day and Prabhudeva’s breezy Ramaiya Vastavaiya. But the films faded away due to the immediate impact of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which has had a stellar run at the box office, collecting 96 croresin 3 weeks.
The next week, box office saw films like Bajatey Raho, Issaq and Nasha. While the former two were multiplex oriented films, Nasha ith its explicit content failed to strike well at the single screens. The films smoothly dwindled away without posing much resistance for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag‘s easy run at the box office. While Bajatey Raho settled with an income of 7 crores, both Issaq and Nasha earned 5 crores each.
This week too, one cannot expect any magic at the box office. Films that released this week are B.A. Pass, Calapor, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Chor Chor Super Chor, Love In Bombay and Rabba Main Kya Karoon. The Arshad Warsi starrer Rabba Main Kya Karoon and critically acclaimed B.A Pass are the only two film which can expect to fare somewhat better than the rest but overall, the box office performance is expected to be low.
Luckily one can be rest assured that the box office will be taken by storm next week as the SRK starrer Chennai Express hits the theaters. Appealing to both multiplex audiences given its star value and single screens being attracted by Rohit Shetty’s style, perhaps the dry spell is preparing for a blooming time for the domestic box office.
