After getting bashed by the critics and audiences the film didn’t see a good road ahead at the Box Office. Time and again it is proven that audience needs entertainment that gives value for their money. And so the cinegoers chose Tanu Weds Manu Returns over Bombay Velvet. Not to forget, there has been a good demand for Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku, which has entered its third week.
Both these movies have made excellent collections at the box office and so the exhibitors are keen on giving the audiences more of Piku and Tanu Weds Manu Returns by shelving the shows of Bombay Velvet.
Commenting on this, Ashok Ahuja ( Consultant sales distribution & IPR management. Ishka films & Mangalmurti films) says, “It’s a normal practice by the exhibitors. No point running a film with no or poor attendance of audience.”
Tanu Weds Manu Returns have grossed 55 crores+ in five days of its release, elaborating on how soon will the movie touch the 100 crore mark and what could be the lifetime collections, Mr Ahuja adds, “By day 11 it will touch 100 crore mark. Life time could touch anywhere between 125/130. Won’t be surprised if it also exceeds my expectation and proves me wrong.”
Looking at the phenomenal performance of Kangana and Deepika not only in the film but also at the box office, Mr Ahuja says, “This is called power of content and not to forget the queens of film industry who are rocking big time at box office.”
The May of 2015 has none the less created a history at the box office. Bombay Velvet whose budget equals the budget of Piku and Tanu Weds Manu Returns combined has not even managed to gross the half of what the other two movies have independently earned at the box office.
