Box Office Report Card Of The Month: Carrying forward the explosion created by Tiger Zinda Hai last year, 2018 started on the sole shoulders of Salman Khan. Many small movies tried to mark their presence but unfortunately was overshadowed by the stellar appearance of Tiger. Though, Padmaavat arrived in the month ending and changed the game.

The new month of the new year started with the packed houses; courtesy Tiger Zinda Hai. Crossing the 300 crore mark, Tiger Zinda Hai in a way made both the years 2017 and 2018 special for the industry. The year started with Hollywood’s horror flick – Insidious: The Last Key & it surely was not the start it was expected. Horror genre being favourite of Indian audience, the success of IT & Annabelle: Creation hyped up the buzz for this one too. But it was ignored even by its target audience.

Steven Spielberg’s The Post, post rippling some news in Academy Awards & Golden Globes, surely had a decent run at the box office. Given the limited screens & chaos of Tiger, The Post had its not-to-complain-much-about run at the Indian box office.

In the second week of the month, we saw three small releases in – 1921, Mukkabaaz & Kaalakaandi. All three movies didn’t do well at the box office but 1921 grossed more than the rest two. Even in this week, Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai appeared to be everyone’s favourite as it continuing its victorious march. The next week, too, had small movies such as Nirdosh, Vodka Diaries & My Birthday Song which didn’t do anything notable at the box office. Minus Tiger Zinda Hai, the month was dull at the box office.

The last week’s entrant, most awaited, Padmaavat changed the game entirely for the month. The movie has already entered the 200 crore club and has been highest grosser for Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and will soon be the one for Deepika Padukone too.

January 2018 has surely started with a bang and with so many interesting movies lined up for the year, we just hope movie keep smashing the box office records consistently unlike 2017.
