Sarbjit is the solo release of the week and in terms of pitching, placement and showcasing, it has managed the best possible platform. It is arriving without any competition from the last, current or next week.

It has been promoted well. Sarbjit is arriving at the time when summer vacations are kicking off. It is finding even international visibility at Cannes. It is also seeing a release on good number of prints and shows.

In terms of opening though, it would all come down to critical acclaim followed by a word of mouth. The film has a dark subject and its promo too gives an impression of a grim narrative. The subject is powerful though, which means if the film manages to touch an emotional chord without turning overtly depressing or disturbing, the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha starrer may just manage to connect.

Director Omung Kumar’s debut film Mary Kom (with Priyanka Chopra) had taken an opening day of 8 crore. Though, that seems like a distant possibility for the film, anything over 6 crore would give the platform for it to consolidate.
