Last Friday, it was a battle of realistic cinema v/s adult entertainment when Airlift and Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 released together. Both films were promoted quite well and they took a good opening too. In fact, while Airlift went on to grow from strength to strength, Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 made a mark amongst its target audience on the first day, before going down due to its content being rejected. It was more of a statement on the final product than the genre in itself.
Now this week too, it is back to realistic entertainment v/s adult content on display as Saala Khadoos and Mastizaade hit the screens. Brand Rajkumar Hirani coupled with the fact that Madhavan has been making some interesting choices over the years means that Saala Khadoos has managed to register a strong presence in the last month and a half. The film has a niche appeal to it which means while the opening would be decent, it would boil down to word of mouth doing the trick. The reports so far have been encouraging and if the final results are accepted, the film would have stable weekdays too.

On the other hand Mastizaade has Sunny Leone in a double role as its star attraction. The film sees Tusshar Kapoor coming on the screen again after last week’s Kya Kool Hain Hum 3. The film has Milap Zaveri as the director and while the youngster has done quite well as a writer over the years, it is an interesting shift for him to be in charge of an adult comedy. A loyal audience for this genre means that the opening would be decent again and yet again, depending on the content, it would cover the kind of distance that it deserves. If the film is good, it would satiate the target audience who were left dissatisfied last week.
Meanwhile, with Airlift seeing rave reviews coming its way, critical acclaim being at an all time high for Akshay Kumar and the box office collections too being superb, it would have a super strong second week as well, hence keeping the flag high right through. Expect the Raja Menon film to give the new releases good competition.
