Padmaavat has seen a good opening at the Box Office, what with 19 crores* coming on the day of release. Though there were talks of record-breaking start and stuff alike, that was never going to happen for the film as it would have been too much to ask for. The signs were there on the paid preview night itself when the occupancy was good but not extraordinary, hence resulting in 5 crores coming in. Moreover, with prevailing tension around the film’s release, it was bound to have an impact on Thursday as well when it saw a full-fledged arrival.
Nonetheless, the good news is that the film has turned out to be the biggest opener ever for Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shahid Kapoor (Deepika Padukone has seen much bigger opening though with films like Happy New Year and Chennai Express).
This is how the best opening day collections for them stand:
Ranveer Singh
Padmaavat – 19 crore*
Gunday – 15.86 crore
Ram Leela – 15.73 crore
Bajirao Mastani – 12.80 crore
Dil Dhadakne Do – 10.50 crore
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Padmaavat – 19 crore*
Ram Leela – 15.73 crore
Bajirao Mastani – 12.80 crore
Guzaarish – 3.82 crore
Saawariya – 3 crore
Trending
Shahid Kapoor
Padmaavat – 19 crore*
Shaandaar – 13.10 crore
R… Rajkumar – 10.10 crore
Udta Punjab – 10.05 crore
Haider – 6.14 crore
The target though, especially for Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, would be for Padmaavat to be their highest grosser ever. For that, they would first have to go past Ram Leela lifetime of 118.7 crores and then aim for Bajirao Mastani [188 crores]. That film had sustained very well during its lifetime and now Padmaavat too would be hoping to collect as much as it can in its first two weeks where it is enjoying an open run.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
