Box Office – Manjhi Opens Better Than Paan Singh Tomar; All Is Well Is Very Low

All Is Well has taken a poor opening at the Box Office. Though one didn’t expect massive footfalls on the day of release since it was meant to be a word of mouth affair, an opening as low as 2.90 crore is very low. Director Umesh Shukla’s last release OMG – Oh My God! had taken a 4 crore opening day and the least one expected was this mark to be crossed. However, this hasn’t happened, which is disappointing.

One can further gauge how low this opening is by the fact that even Shamitabh [3.5 crore], Detective Byomkesh Bakshy [4.2 crore], Ek Paheli Leela [4.2 crore,] Mr. X [4.5 crore] and Alone [4.5 crore] opened better this year. Since the reviews too are all around poor and word of mouth is negligible, the film would need a miracle to see any turnaround over the weekend.

On the other hand Manjhi-The Mountain Man, which was released at a very few shows in select multiplexes, couldn’t garner many footfalls either. Though it did manage to collect 1.40 crore mark, it would be interesting to see how far does it go from this point on. It has not just done better than Ketan Mehta’s last release Rang Rasiya [0.75 crore opening day], but is also higher than Irrfan Khan’s Paan Singh Tomar [0.85 crore]. Since the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer belongs to the same genre, it is a heartening sign. That said, the word of mouth and critical acclaim isn’t the same as the Tigmanshu Dhulia directed affair.

In terms of %age jump, Manjhi-The Mountain Man would have a higher number to boast. However from a long run perspective, a lot would depend on how quick do the jumps come since next Friday a biggie arrives in the form of Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Phantom.
