Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan hasn’t done well at the Box Office. It has turned out to be a commercial disappointment as the film continued to go down during the weekdays after a weekend that had stayed flat too. Needless to say, it is disheartening for all in the industry who were looking forward to yet another quality product and a money spinner from Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Raj Films.
The film has collected 71.50 crore at the Box Office which is low for an affair that comes with a budget of 105 crore (without Shah Rukh Khan’s fee). As things stand today, theatrically Fan has not lived up to the expectations and it would now all boil down to how other rights play out.
When compared to the biggies in 2016, the film – after enjoying the record for the Highest Day One and Highest First Weekend – has slipped down to the third spot as far as Highest First Week is concerned:
Airlift – 83.5 crore
The Jungle Book – 74.63 crore
Fan – 71.50 crore
This is also much lower amongst Shah Rukh Khan’s last five films:
Chennai Express – 156.61 crore (including Paid Previews)
Happy New Year – 152 crore
Dilwale – 102.65 crore
Jab Tak Hai Jaan – 86.09 crore (First 7 days – The film released on Tuesday)
Fan – 71.50 crore*
On the other hand The Jungle Book has continued to be ultra strong and started collecting better than even Fan as the week progressed. The film has now collected 122.74 crore and is all set to go past Airlift [129 crore] this weekend. It would emerge as the biggest grosser of 2016 in 17 days flat. Blockbuster!
