Today, on Valentine’s Day, two new releases are hitting North American theatres. Yes, we’re talking about Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web and Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Bob Marley: One Love. Being mid-week releases, they’ll enjoy the benefit of the extended weekend, and on top of that, Presidents’ Day falls on Monday, so the extended weekend stretches from Wednesday to Monday. Bob Marley: One Love’s box office projection
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, Bob Marley: One Love is a biographical musical drama. During the 6-day extended weekend frame, the film is expected to rake in $30-$35 million at the North American box office, as per the report in Variety. This range of collection looks decent for a regular 3-day Friday to Sunday weekend, but for 6 days, it’s clearly not up to the mark.
Paramount’s musical biopic is riding on a production cost of $70 million, which doesn’t include any marketing cost. Looking at this budget, the opening weekend projection isn’t favorable. Also, reviews have been mixed so far, so one needs to really see how the film will proceed at the box office after the opening weekend.

Things are looking difficult for Madame Web?
Madame Web marks the fourth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, starring Dakota Johnson in a titular. The film is slightly costlier than Bob Marley: One Love and carries a production cost of $80 million, which doesn’t include the marketing expenses. Given the fact that the film is based on Marvel Comics, it had some sort of buzz around it. However, amid the ongoing superhero fatigue, it might suffer at the North American box office.
Madame Web is expected to stay a bit lower than Bob Marley: One Love during the opening weekend, and it might earn $22-$25 million in six days (Wednesday to Monday). While this range is already low, what adds to the tension is that the reviews are brutal and highly negative, and it might make the film difficult to sustain during regular weekdays.
Let’s see if there’s any miraculous turnaround during the weekend for both films.
