Join UsBox Office 2020 VS 2019: January of 2020 was expected to be really a lucrative one with big-ticket releases being slated for arrival but except Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji, all others failed to make an impact. And now the case with February is even worse with major films like Love Aaj Kal and Malang failing to make it big despite enjoying an impressive buzz. Now in this troubled time, will Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Vicky Kaushal’s Bhoot be the saviour? Let’s find out the distance they need to cross to touch last year’s mark.
The year of 2019 is one of the highly profitable years in Bollywood history and the numbers behind it speaks volume. Each month contributed heftily and speaking about February, collections of 316.54 crores from notable releases were recorded. The sum includes releases like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (20.01 crores), Gully Boy (139.38 crores), Amavas (2.85 crores) and Total Dhamaal (154.30 crores).
Coming to this February, till now, just 82.93 crores are being made at the box office. The total includes Love Aaj Kal (28.51 crores*), Shikara (6.75 crores) and Malang (47.67 crores*). In the case of Imtiaz Ali directorial, the film is performing way below the expectations and signs are not good for the coming days. Shikara took a decent start and faltered during weekdays, while Malang is just about fair in its run. To beat last year’s record, a huge distance of 233.61 crores is still to be covered and now all eyes are set on Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship, which are the last noteworthy films of the month.
