It has been a peculiar case for Azhar when it comes to its Box Office performance. Though the film opened just about decent, one expected it to see a build-up in momentum during the weekend.
Considering the fact that the response for the film was better than Emraan Hashmi’s last few films, a pickup in collections was on the cards. However, when that didn’t quite happen over the weekend, all hopes lied in stable weekdays. The film did drop on Monday though and with that, the collections for the week came to 29.70 crore.
The Tony D’Souza directed film deserved better though. However, one major reason that can be pin pointed is the fact that audience just didn’t have any interest in knowing the life story of Azhar.
Though the Week One collections of Emraan Hashmi’s 2012 release Jannat 2 (35 crore) stay on to be better, Azhar is still better than each of his other solo-starrers released in last four years – Ek Thi Daayan (24.4 crore), Raja Natwarlal (26 crore), Hamari Adhuri Kahani (27.1 crore) and Mr. X (22 crore).
Note: All collections as per production and distributor sources
