Films like Mummy Punjabi and Bas Ek Tamanna, also released on Wednesday to take advantage of the Eid holiday, actually had to bear the brunt of the opposition of Bodyguard. Both the non-star cast films went largely unnoticed.
Shabri failed to make any mark at the box-office. Its limited release (in Bombay and C.P. Berar only) last week will now ensure that the film will not see the light of day in most other circuits because of zero appreciation. Stand By did not even stand by as an extra. Its collections in the first week were dismal. Chitkabrey, too, bombed in its first week itself. Recorded extremely low collections.
The audience stayed away from Yeh Dooriyan which is why it was able to gross poorly in its first week. Conan The Barbarian (dubbed) and the original English version (of the same title) from which it has been dubbed, did average business in the first week. Chatur Singh Two Star is in its last lap – that is, where it is not out of the cinemas after a disastrous run of two weeks. Not A Love Story crashed further, in its second week. It is also breathing its last where it has not already been discontinued from the cinemas.
Aarakshan had to make way for Bodyguard from 31st August at several places. While it managed to record fair collections in its third week at some centres, it went out of steam at others. Singham managed to yield shares in its sixth week too. It seems to have exhausted its meritorious run, now that Bodyguard has caught the fancy of the audience. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is another winner that fetched shares in its seventh week too.
