Blackmail Box Office: Irrfan Khan Starrer Loses The Grip!

 Blackmail starring Irrfan Khan is done with its 2nd weekend at the Box Office. The Abhinay Deo directorial received good reviews but it seems the word of mouth has not being going well with the film.

The satirical dark comedy earned 2.19 crores at the box office in its 2nd weekend, which shows the brakes are being applied. So far, the film has collected 19.11 crores, not even close to when you compare it with Hindi Medium. Even for a film with such a niche audience as well as limited budget and promotion, the numbers are below average.

Since the film had a relatively lower opening than what was initially predicted, it needed some good numbers during the weekdays in order for it to maintain its grip at the box office. However, Blackmail will be having a really tough time ahead of its run, with Shoojit Sircar’s October doing well. The Irrfan Khan starrer is already facing competition from films like October, Hichki and Baaghi 2.

The film narrates the story of Dev (played by Irrfan Khan ), who is a workaholic, so much so that he is barely able to spend time with his wife. One day when he plans on surprising her by going home early with a bouquet of flowers, he is utterly shocked as he watches his wife in bed with her ex-lover.

While a man would usually opt for two options on seeing this, i.e. kill his wife or kill his wife’s lover, Dev aka Irrfan decides to blackmail the wife’s lover.

While the word of mouth and overall appeal of the film, is not quite in the same league as, say Hindi Medium, the film has shown positive results so far, especially for such a niche genre.
