Back in 2008 when Aditya Chopra’s last release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi had released, the film had netted 43 crore after a one week run. Now the director’s next film Befikre has released and it has managed to go past that number in 5 days. With 3.59 crore more coming in on Tuesday, the film currently stands at 43.22 crore.
Of course in fair value it was the Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer which was a much better bet for a couple of reasons:
a) It had collected 43 crore 8 years back and the ticket rates were much lower then and
b) it had enjoyed a very good word of mouth due to which eventually it had carried on to almost double its Week One collections and gather a lifetime total of 83 crore to emerge as a Superhit.
In case of Befikre though, it looks tough that Aditya Chopra would be able to even double his weekend score of 34.36 crore. The film has been doing just about fair in the weekdays after a decent weekend which hadn’t seen much of an escalation. Clearly, the film isn’t managing the kind of word of mouth that would have allowed it to boast of a hefty total.
There are still a couple of more days to go in the week which would allow the film to go past the 50 crore. After that, there is no new multiplex-centric release (Wajah Tum Ho is eyeing a good chunk of audiences from the single screens) which means the Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor film would continue to get some good screens for itself. That would allow the film to pump it its overall collections by a few more crore at the least. However, once Dangal hits the screens on 23rd December, it would be primarily the Aamir Khan starrer that would do all the talking.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
