As expected, there was a very good jump in collections for Brothers on Saturday. With the national holiday of Independence Day, good footfalls were pretty much on the cards. No wonder, the kind of footfalls that were seen yesterday were quite encouraging for the makers as 21.43 crore came in. This is a good jump over Friday (which had brought in 15.2 crore) and now today being Sunday, another good haul is pretty much on the cards. The film now stands with a collection of 36.63 crores at the domestic box office.
All of this is ensuring that Akshay Kumar would now have the Biggest Opening Weekend ever for a film of his. The record is held by Rowdy Rathore (48 crore) and that is all set to break by the time evening shows set in. Same holds true for Sidharth Malhotra too as the record of his last release Ek Villain (50.7 crore) would be toppled as well.
This isn’t all as the film is now set to enjoy the second best opening weekend of the year after Bajrangi Bhaijaan (102.6 crore). This year, other major films like ABCD – Any Body Can Dance 2 (46.3 crore), Akshay’s own Gabbar Is Back (40 crore), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (38 crore), Dil Dhadakne Do (37 crore) and Baby (36 crore – First three days, since it was released on Thursday) had scored well. However, with Brothers all set to go past 50 crore quite comfortably by the close of weekend, all these numbers are set to be toppled.
The film has managed to find its audience and now all eyes are on how big does Sunday turn out to be. The current trend promises that 20 crore mark would be breached.
We would be back with the updates tomorrow afternoon.
