Join UsThere was never an expectation for Purani Jeans and Kya Dilli Kya Lahore to take the box office by storm on the opening day itself. However, the kind of dull collections that the two films fetched was disheartening to say the least. While Kya Dilli Kya Lahore practically opened to empty houses, Purani Jeans was only slightly better. The reviews hovered around the average mark too and since there wasn’t much audience to begin with, the word of mouth didn’t spread hard either.
As a result, Purani Jeans just about managed to cross the 1 crore mark over the weekend while Kya Dilli Kya Lahore struggled to reach the 50 lakh milestone. Since there are over half a dozen films releasing this Friday, the two films have just a week to collect whatever they can.
Though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fetched a superb screen count for itself, the opening wasn’t humungous. In fact we were the first to predict in this column that despite the franchise value, the film’s opening was expected to be just good, not bumper, due to lack of hype that a biggie of this stature deserves.
No wonder, it was 2 States that continued to rake on moolah in its third weekend as well and collected far better than sum total of all other Hindi films, whether old or new release, in circulation. The Arjun Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer now is much closer to the 100 crore mark.
