1920 – Evil Returns is the sole Bollywood runner at the Box Office this Week

Since ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan‘ and ‘Son of Sardaar‘ were touted to release in the middle of the week, there was no notable film that dared to arrive a weekend before. It made practical sense as well since the screens and show count would either have been drastically reduced or entirely chopped in order to accommodate aforementioned biggies. No wonder, the only stray release of the week was ‘It’s Rocking – Dard-E-Disco’ which couldn’t release at any major multiplex or single screen. Worse, it wasn’t even reviewed by any notable critic. A disaster even before its release, the film couldn’t find anything going for it.

The one which did benefit from an open weekend was ‘1920- Evil Returns‘. After finding its way through the weekdays, it enjoyed the perks of an open weekend with around 4.5 crores more coming in. This has now brought the film to around 24 crores mark. However due to Diwali biggies taking over the screens from Tuesday onwards, screens showing ‘1920 – Evil Returns‘ would drastically reduce. There would be added moolah that would continue to flow in from smaller centres though which means it’s overall collections in the long run would exceed 26 crores.

The film is now a clear hit and has turned out to be a win-win situation for all involved. Vikram Bhatt’s brand as a horror filmmaker has been further consolidated, Tia Bajpai is being taken seriously as an actress, Aftab Shivdasani has a success in hand after quite some time, director Bhushan Patel is stepping into ‘Ragini MMS 2‘ with his head further high while composer Chirantan Bhatt has shown that he has it in him to churn out some melodious tunes and just needs the right platform to showcase his work.

On the other hand even though ‘Luv Shuv....’ had an advantage of no competition from any newer release, it could hardly add more to it’s first week sum and would go down as a box office disappointment.
