Breaking the jinx with a Bolly debut, as big as a Yash Raj film, Rhea Chakraborty talks about her role in Mere Dad ki Maruti.

Bagging a debut film under the prestigious YRF banner, how does it feel?
It feels awesome and it is really goof to do a film with the YRF, because they are so nice and are the biggest production house in India. Kisi bhi newcomer ke liye YRF ki film milna bohut badi baat hoti hai.

What is your role in the film?
The car in the film, the Maruti gets lost because of me and I also have an important role to play in the film. My character is of Jasleen Bhasin but she calls herself Jazzleen because she doesn’t find her real name cool enough for her attitude. She thinks she is Chandigarh ki Shakira and she is really popular in her University where all the guys want to date her. The hero of the film, Saqeeb is playing a not-so-cool guy in the film but who loves Jasleen madly. Finally, mushkil se usko ek date mil jaati hai and he feels that when he is finally getting a date with me, he should take me out in a car. There comes the Maruti which Sameer’s dad has bought to gift her daughter on her wedding. And then Sameer steals the car to take me on a ride. And jaasleen ko ghumate ghuamte gaadi bhi gum jaati hai! Wahi se shuru hoti hai Mere Dad ki Maruti!

You initially auditioned with the YRF for Anushka’s role in Band Baaja Baaraat but that did not happen. How did this film happen?
I was 17 when I auditioned for Band Baaja Baaraat and I have auditioned for Yash Raj about two to three times more. Shanoo Sharma, the casting director called me when she finally felt that this character fits me perfectly. And I was not under aged anymore. I am 20 now.

How has your equations been with Saqib?
Well, Saqib Saleem and I are very comfortable with each other. Initially we did not get along well but slowly as we started shooting, we really got close to each other and he is very protective of me. Plus he is a very natural actor and helps you out a lot. We were not intimidated by each other so we did our best and stood by each other through this film

What are your expectations from the film?
I just expect, hope and desire that this film becomes a hit. We have all worked really hard for this and this would also make some money, and people will like it too. Plus we are all newcomers, so this is a big break for me.

Post this you are doing Rohan Sippy’s Sonali Cable. Tell us something about that.
I cannot talk about it because I am not supposed to talk about it. So I can’t call it my project as of now. I can’t confirm my upcoming films with you now because the producer needs to make an announcement before I can!
