Why are Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao keeping on talking about the lack of universal appeal of their film, ‘Dhobi Ghat’?
They are just being honest about the content of their film. They are openly saying, it is not exactly the commercial potboiler it may promise to be because of Aamir Khan’s presence in its cast and because it is produced by his company. They are also frank enough to admit that many of its dialogues are in English. How many producers and directors have the courage which Aamir and Kiran have exhibited by talking about the lack of universal appeal of their film?

Producers met this week to discuss about wasteful expenditure on promotion. But I think, more wasteful is the expenditure on star fees. Why don’t they tackle that first?
They can tackle only what is in their control. If they decide to slash star prices, whom will they make their films with, when the stars refuse to work for less? Stars are few whereas options for marketing are aplenty.
What chance do non-star-cast films stand today?
