Son Of Sardaar’s director Ashwani Dhir has been a notable screenplay writer with films like U Me Aur Hum, Chala Mussadi Office Office and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?. Infact, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? starring Paresh Rawal, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ajay Devgan was directed by him as well. He had also directed One Two Ka Four. Dhir’s films have majorly gone unnoticed and hence with the hype around Son Of Sardaar he has pinned great expectations from the film.

On the other side, Dhir’s film faces competition from Jab Tak Hai Jaan which turned out to be the last film of Yash Chopra. Chopra, also fondly called ‘The King Of Romance’, is said to have mastered the arena of Romantic films in Bollywood. Yashji has over five decades of experience in filmmaking and has left behind a legacy of iconic films in Bollywood. Jab Tak Hai Jaan has been publicized as the climax of his rich lifetime of Bollywood Journey. Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Chopra’s duo has delivered many hit films like Dil To Pagal Hai, Darr and Veer Zaara. Their track record of a high success rate assures that it will be continued into Jab Tak Hai Jaan as well.

Producers:

A lot of how the films perform depends on the production house as well, to which the film belongs. Brand is a very essential factor in Bollywood and creation of a trustworthy brand ensures that audience’s loyalties. Viacom 18, which has produced Son Of Sardaar, is a new kid on the block which has been delivering pretty many hits in the recent times. With films like Kahaani, OMG Oh My God!, Gangs Of Wasseypur I and II, this productions house is appreciative of rich films abundant in content and realism. They believe in delivering film with substance and perhaps Son Of Sardaar will follow the same vein too.

However, Jab Tak Hai Jaan comes from Yash Raj Films which is the premier production house of Bollywood. Their kitty is full of hits and superhits, their last venture being the 198 crore raking, Salman Khan film Ek Tha Tiger. Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest hits have all been produced by YRF including DDLJ and Mohabbatein.

Going by the weight of production house, there is a better chance for Jab Tak Hai Jaan at the box office. But Son Of Sardaar is expected to score on the basis of strong content and great acting from Ajay Devgan.

Music:

Music wise, the films have already been reviewed and the music of both films are not even on comparable platforms differing in taste and style, but both are good enough to push the film a little farther than the other in the race.

Heroine:

Son Of Sardaar’s female lead Sonakshi Sinha is an added fresh face to the film deliberately to balance the senior seasoned actors who star along with her. Her track record in Bollywood is good with delivering hits like Dabangg and Rowdy Rathore. She is quite in demand for the unconventional beauty and promising acting. Contrary to this, Jab Tak Hai Jaan stars Bollywood’s most successful actress in recent times, Katrina Kaif. Her last film Ek Tha Tiger opposite Salman Khan was from YRF as well and went on to become one of the top grossing films this year. The second lead lady of the film is Anushka Sharma who is known for the qualm-less, free and vivacious acting known to blend energy in her character and performance both. She has delivered many hit films and this happens to be her second film with Shah Rukh Khan after her hit debut opposite him in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

The Superstars:

The main attraction of the films is its actors. Shah Rukh Khan the Badshaah of Bollywood v/s Ajay Devgan who is quite a Star in his own right, both actors have build their strong career in Bollywood with their hard work. Their films have been very different and cannot really be compared. They have their own set of fans and loyalists. At the wake of the new millennium, SRK’s career got a new path and he has met mostly with success and appreciation since then. Brilliant performances and terrific hits have created him as the Bollywood’s superstar. With Don 2 and Ra.One, he also joined the 100 crore club. SRK’s movies have mostly been superhits given his magnanimous fan following which extends into the overseas markets as well ruling hearts all over the world and reigning Bollywood for years now.

Ajay Devgan with a career as vast and dynamic, he has 3 films in the 100 crore club namely Bol Bachchan, Singham and Golmaal 3. Ajay’s career has been rocky and rainy in patches but Devgan’s performance oriented roles and appreciation garnering work has had the audiences going crazy for him and his films have been making lucrative earnings at the box office.

Publicity wise, both the films are competing closely and though there is no blatant show of it, there is a constant undercurrent of animosity working between the two films that are scheduled to release on the same Friday. Both starring A list actors, with a good film and a good script, it is on the audiences to decide the fate of these films. Koimoi extends its warms wishes to both the films and hopes that the best entertainer wins!
