Rajkummar Rao is a force to reckon with. Despite the fact that he belongs to a non-filmy background, the actor has carved his niche in the industry. Rajkummar is amongst the top choices for big-budget films and his fanbase is also growing rapidly. But it was not all smooth sailing for the actor.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Rajkummar Rao got candid about the struggles behind becoming this huge star. He told how he had given numerous auditions for ads and films and often got rejected without a proper trial. He went on to reveal that he earned only rupees 11,000 from his first film.

Rajkumar said, “I was pretty lucky with work coming in but the real problem was the finance. I was being paid around 11,000 rupees for my debut film. But after that, I got Ragini MMS. It was after a break of 2-3 months that I got the film and I got paid around a Lakh rupees for it.”

He went out to say, “These were small films but they did good business at the box office. And beyond that, people started to notice who I was. My only aim to LSD was because it was a Dibakar Banerjee film and I knew that the makers would watch it. That is exactly what happened! Anurag Kashyap watched it and then he called me for Gangs Of Wasseypur and then a bagged Shahid through a reference from Anurag and Dibakar. The greedy actor in me was happy.”

Rajkummar even revealed that he had one big project with a big studio that he was replaced by someone else for the film.

Currently, Rajkummar is gearing up for his Diwali release – Made In China, also starring Mouni Roy, Boman Irani. Post this, Rajkummar will be seen in Roohi-Afza starring Janhvi Kapoor. He is also a part of Turram Khan alongside Nushrat Bharucha.
