Amid the coronavirus lockdown, there are many unverified forwarded messages that keep circulating on WhatsApp which creates panic and distress amongst the public. To tackle this, Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli alongside Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Sara Ali Khan, came together to raise awareness and stop the spread of false forwarded messages on social media.
This initiative is being called ‘Mat Kar Forward’, it is a campaign released by TikTok. To support this initiative top personalities like Virat Kohli, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Sara Ali Khan featured in a video directed by Anurag Basu, where they talked about the menace of fake forwarded messages on social media platforms.
Virat took to Instagram and shared the video along with the caption: ”All of you support us with such fervor when we play for the nation. But now the nation needs you, me, all of us to play for it. Will you do your bit?” Kohli said in a tweet on his handle with the hashtag #MatKarForward.

Yesterday, Kohli also paid tributes to 5 security personnel who died in an encounter with terrorists in North Kashmir’s Handwara district. Kohli tweeted: ”Those who don’t forget their duty in any circumstances are true heroes. Their sacrifices must not be forgotten. I bow my head to the army personnel & the policemen who lost their lives at Handwara and sincerely send my condolences to their families and wish them peace. Jai Hind”.
Recently, Amitabh Bachchan and Anand Mahindra were also trolled for sharing and believing false messages which keep circulating on social media. Not just the trolling, a petition was also filed by fans to uninstall WhatsApp on Amitabh Bachchan’s phone, and it was signed by more than 2000 people in a day.
