All the three versions of Mani Ratnam’s Raavan have been released simultaneously this week. The film was shot in Hindi and Tamil, and the Tamil version was also dubbed in Telugu. The worldwide distribution rights of all the three versions are held by Reliance Big Pictures which has released the three versions in approximately 2,200 screens the world over.
Interestingly, South actor Vikram, who plays Aishwarya Rai’s husband in the Hindi version, plays the title role in the Tamil version. In other words, the role of Beera (who is the modern-day Raavan) in the Tamil version (titled Raavanan) is enacted by Vikram and not Abhishek who plays it in the Hindi version. While Abhishek is seen only in the Hindi Raavan, Aishwarya and Vikram are in all the three versions. The Telugu version is titled Villain.
