Akshay Kumar is busy promoting his latest flick, another from the Khiladi franchise, Khiladi 786 that releases this December 7th. Rumour mills have it that the biggest action star has been replaced by a newbie for the newest edition of the Indianised version of Fear Factor, Khatron Ke Khiladi. Though rumours of Ajay Devgn being the production’s first choice was doing the rounds, a press release has ruled out anything but this.

Akshay, who had been the face of the show right from its inception, barring one edition which was hosted by Bollywood’s adventure girl Priyanka Chopra, has now been replaced by the full of Force actor Vidyut Jamwal. Vidyut, who has mesmerized all with his superlative performance in his debut film, has received a lot of accolades for the daredevil stunts and his perfectly sculpted body. Not just that, he has also gone on to fetch some Debutante Awards this season.

The one film old actor had been a trained martial arts performer even before he joined the industry. All of the almost fatal dare devil stunts and action sequences were choreographed by him in the Nishikant Kamat flick. Khatron Ke Khiladi that was undergoing a lull post its last edition, way back in 2010 seems to come back stronger with bigger challenges and a new host.

Vidyut seems to have wooed the makers of the show with his great fitness regime and his love for action. Being one of the leading faces of Gen Next today, Vidyut will take the cue from his on screen action hero Akshay Kumar when it comes to the tit-bits of hosting the show. Khatron Ke Khiladi’s fifth edition will be his maiden appearance on screen and everyone seems quite excited about his debut on the small screen.

While the dishy actor remained mum about the entire ongoing event, an insider had a lot to reveal. “The production house and the team have been toying with the idea of a new face for this branded TV reality show. They’d been tracking Vidyut since his debut film Force last year and had researched his background to find his strong martial art roots. Vidyut had performed all his stunts himself in Force that earned him the daredevil tag. They had followed his journey and with his latest Bollywood action film Commando (releasing early 2013) where he plays the lead, they knew that he had great relevance. The stunts in the film have all been performed and co-designed by Vidyut which are minus cables and stunt doubles and thus promises some never seen before action sequences. They also realized that in addition to being great looking and having the physique of a Greek God, Vidyut also lends an authenticity to the ethos and thus there is a strong connect to the show.”

Keeping Vidyut’s prior film commitments in mind, the production house too plans to postpone the show which was supposed to go on air by 2013 to 2014. “The channel and the production house wanted to start shooting in early 2013 but due to certain internal reasons have decided to skip having the show on air this year and considering a 2014 roll out of the show. They are also certain that Vidyut’s film Commando, which releases in 2013 and his other forthcoming projects will make a strong impact of him as India’s new age action hero taking the association to the next level for 2014,” added the insider.

When contacted, Vidyut’s spokesperson stated, “The production house handling the property was in talks with Vidyut’s management agency. The conversation was in very initial stages and a lot of details are still to be discussed. Let’s see how things pan out.”

Will Vidyut be able to live up to all the expectations of being the newest action star on the block? Will he deliver better than Akki as a host? That’s all up to time to tell.
