How Vidya Signed The Dirty Picture
Milan (director Milan Luthria) came to me with the story of The Dirty Picture and narrated it to me. He left me with the story for one night and came with the script the following day. I thought had a good couple of months to think over the film and even Milan got busy with Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. I thought that he had forgotten about TDP. But no sooner had he finished shooting OUATIM than he came right back!
The Fake Orgasm
When I read the script, it had a fake orgasm scene. I really hoped that it would be shot on the tenth day or so when I would be more at ease on the sets. As luck would have it, it was shot on the first day! I wanted the room to be empty but how long can you shoot without the people? But Milan said, “If you can do this scene, you can do the rest with ease.” And he was right.
What My Parents Thought Of The Movie
Since I had the time, I spoke to a few people about the role. They thought I was doing the role of Silk Smitha and they said they think I shouldn’t do it. But my family has always been very supportive of me and my roles. My sister, my brother-in-law and my manager K.S. Sanjay have been very helpful. Sanjay told me, “Just take the plunge!” I was a bit concerned when my parents had to watch the film. But when they came out of the screening, they were so emotional. My father said that he was extremely proud of what I had done. It made everything worth it.
I Didn’t Do It To Prove A Point
I never evaluate a role on the basis of glamour or lack of it. I wore just 1-2 T-shirts in No One Killed Jessica, but I have more than 100 costumes in TDP. It’s just a story that I want to hear/see and which I’d want to make.
Ooh la la!
Ooh La La was incredible fun! Shreya Ghoshal brought out the masti in the song and I’ve always wanted to a song like Sridevi with lots of expression. After three days of shooting, I began to enjoy the loud movements and gestures. I’ve actually lived out my fantasy in Ooh la la.
Relationship With Naseeruddin Shah
The equation with Naseer in the film is a lust-lust relationship. He plays a megalomaniac of a superstar. There were times I would say, I’ve forgotten how you really are! Even though we had some bizarre scenes (like rolling down the hill with oranges), he’s enjoyed it.
One At A Time
I always work on one film at a time. When im doing a movie, I try to get out of my endorsements. I can’t socialize. That’s why I love shooting out of Bombay.
Enjoying Courtship With Siddharth Kapur
Yes, I am seeing Siddharth Roy Kapur. But I can’t say anything because I feel very awkward talking about it. I’m just enjoying courtship at the moment.
