The trailer of Ayushmann Khurrana’s much-awaited film Bala dropped yesterday and got an amazing response from the audience. Bet seems like it is Bhumi Pednekar’s skin tone in the film that did not go well with a few, resulting in the team receiving criticism on social media.

Bhumi who plays one of the female leads in Bala appears dusky in the trailer. The actress’s skin tone has been altered and made her a few shades darker. The difference is striking and is easily visible in the trailer.

Slamming the makers on Twitter many netizens pointed out the topic and had a lot to say. They pointed out that if the filmmakers wanted to address the cultural obsession with fair skin they should have cast someone with a naturally dark tone.

A tweet read, “This poster is soo weird and why Bhumi Pednekar when we have Konkona Sen Sharma, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and many more Bollywood actresses with dusky complexion.” Another read, “Just saw Bala trailer. Why couldn’t they just use a dark-skinned actress than putting black makeup on fair-skinned Bhumi?

This is not the first time. A few months ago, the makers of Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 were criticized for not casting someone who looks natural but making the actor darker through makeup.

Bala starring Ayushmann, Bhumi and Yami Gautam is set to release on November 8. The film is directed by Amar Kaushik.
