For a country referred to as one of the largest democracies of the world, there could not have been a more shameful day than today. When the so called “Responsible leaders” were busy defending themselves and accusing each other for the law and order, the Delhi Rape Victim, who was recently shifted to Singapore, passed away.
The question here remains will the country rise after this or will this be another forgotten story with no end? With the awareness and reach of Press & Media and social networking sites, the common people, celebrities, and everyone seems to have become more aware of the country’s situation. All except the ones whom we expect to be aware.
Some refer to Bollywood as a selfish industry with no moral or social responsibility. However, the fact is quite clear by the tweets flowing in.
The death of the Delhi gang-rape victim in Singapore shocked Bollywood, with Shabana Azmi urging the country to “wake up” and combat violence against women. The film fraternity took to Twitter to express its indignation over the gang-rape and her death after 13 days of struggle.
Amitabh Bachchan: ‘Amanat’, ‘Damini’ just a name now… her body has passed away, but her soul shall shall forever stir our hearts.
Lata Mangeshkar: Enough is enough. Nirbhay damini ki mrityu nahi hui hai, humare desh ki insaaniyat ki mrityu hui hai ,ye waqt hai ki humari sarkar ab to geheri neend se jaage aur in pashutulya balatkaario’n ko jald se jald, kadi se kadi saza de,sirf aasu bahana aur bolna ab band karein.
Vivek Oberoi: How many girls have to die before we see change? Damini deserves justice, the girl in Punjab who took her life deserves justice. The girls who are victim to the horrendous crime of rape everyday deserve justice. Safety & respect for a woman is not her privilege, it’s her right.
Shabana Azmi: And SHE PASSES AWAY in Singapore. RIP. Our impotence stares us in the face. May SHE become the wake-up call our country needs. We must soul search. Female foeticide; inequal access to nutrition, education, health; no decision making powers; dowry demands; rapes rampant. INDIA WAKE UP.
Kabir Bedi: “Damini” will live forever in India’s heart. Her ordeal moved us deeply. She raised the consciousness of a nation. R.I.P.
Shekhar Kapur: Her greatest betrayal is that we will forget. Political systems’ greatest hope is we will forget. Our only redemption is if we do not forget. On 31st December, I will stand in silence in her memory. Will you, or will u party on?
Mahesh Bhatt: Shut all temples where you pretend to worship the female form. Cry India! Your hands are drenched with the blood of your own daughters.
Karan Johar: RIP to a brave girl who fought in a weak and paralysed country.. Shame on all of us.
Madhur Bhandarkar: RIP Damini, today is a dark day in our democracy. We should pledge not to let dust settle on this fight till the end.
Mugdha Godse: Rip nirbhaya damini n many more who been victim of t horrendous situation, we need justice and powerful laws to create a better nation.
Let’s hope the country does not forget this incident yet again like the other revolutions which keep popping up now and again. Let’s hope this loss brings to us a change, a change for the better, a change for mankind, a chance for mankind.
