Has the ‘perfectionist’ tag turned out to be counter productive for Aamir Khan? That’s the question making the round of a vast audience base ever since the release of Talaash. Though the film has seen a good box office outcome so far, the overall response has been mixed.
“That is something uncharacteristic of an Aamir Khan starrer. Reason being that ever since the release of Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini and 3 Idiots, one factor that has stayed consistent for Aamir Khan and his films is universal acceptance. There has never been a finger pointed at his act or the choice of script. The success garnered by these films is further testimony to that. However Talaash has evidenced a few chinks in the armour and they show. For a change, the feedback coming in isn’t the kind that indicates universal acceptance,” comments an analyst.

The first signs were visible when the critic’s feedback started coming in. Though no one has termed the film as bad, there have been a few comments around the film being average or just good, something that doesn’t augur well with an Aamir Khan product.

“When such great brand and hype is build for a superstar, it is indeed a challenge to live up to those expectations time and again. One can sense that Aamir was conscious of that and the delays in completion of Talaash pretty much indicates that as well. Somehow, the whole ‘perfectionist’ tag has seemingly thrown in a lot of weight. Aamir is excellent in what he has done but one can sense that it is a laboured effort,” a critic adds.
This is evidenced from the fact that even though the film has managed to cross the opening weekend collections of 3 Idiots, it is highly unlikely that it would run a distance as long as the Rajkumari Hirani directed feel good affair. The good news though is that Aamir has Dhoom:3 lined up next and that should be good enough to register a quintessential blockbuster success in 2013.
