Ayushmann Khurana’s wife and filmmaker Tahira Kashyap was caught off guard with after taking a punch from life threatening health concerns. Tahira was diagnosed with early stage one breast cancer despite having gone through a preventive double mastectomy last year.

And it was with this regards that Tahira has yet again opened up about the importance of discussing not just physical health concerns but more importantly a person’s mental health. In her recent chat with Mid-Day, Tahira opened up about her mental struggle and how difficult it was for her to come to terms with her problems and the absence of her actor husband, Ayushmann Khurrana.

Revealing how she cried almost every night to put herself to sleep, Tahira said, “I never treated my body, mind and soul as one entity. I always thought physical health was important, and mental toh kuch hota hi nahin hai. So, I exercised a lot. But I think [the cancer] was a manifestation of the negativity that I had been harbouring,” she said. “Had I gone to a doctor, I would have been declared clinically depressed. But I chose to cry every night instead of visiting one. I was living a dual life. My husband was shooting; I would spend hours at night crying, and put up the front of a happy person in the morning so that I didn’t look like a loser before my children, who were aged two and four then.”

But the caner was not her first bout with health battles. Tahira reveals she was diagnosed with Thyroid and her doctor advised her to not tell anyone as it would hamper her chances of marriage. But Tahira who was in a very committed relationship to Ayuhsmann said, “I’ve been on a high dose of thyroid medication since college. I recall, following my diagnosis, the doctor told me to not tell anyone about my condition since it would hamper my chances of getting married. As soon as I was out, I told Ayushmann. He said, ‘Okay, we’ll deal with it, but what is it, anyway?'”

Well kudos to you girl for voicing your own battles and for Ayushmann and Tahira as a couple for always standing by each other through thick and thin.

On the professional front, Ayushamnn is basking in the success of his last release, Dream Girl and is also gearing up for the release of Aanand L Rai’s Shubh Mangal Zayda Saavdhan and Dinesh Vijan’s Bala.
