Last week, Taapsee Pannu won the Best Actress (Critics) Filmfare Award 2020 for her performance in the film Saand Ki Aankh. Her co-star Bhumi Pednekar also received the award who played her sister in the film. The moment Taapsee shared the news of winning Filmfare award on social media, she was flooded with congratulatory messages. Producer Tanuj Garg referred to her as the female Ayushmann Khurrana which the netizens, as well as the actress, didn’t appreciate.

Tanuj Garg had tweeted, “Bollywood’s female version of Ayushmann Khurrana” to which the Thappad actress responded, “What about calling me Bollywood ki pehli Taapsee Pannu?” A lot of people praised Pannu for giving such a powerful response.

In an interview with Indian Express, Taapsee Pannu was asked about the entire matter. The actress said that Tanuj’s intention was good and he has been very supportive of her for years. “I know his intention but I have been hearing a lot from people recently — ‘you choose your films the way Ayushmann does. You are the female version of Ayushmann’,” said the Badla actress.

She added, “I’m like ‘wonderful that this guy is doing fabulous work but why am I supposed to be known by his name’?” About her response to Tanuj on Twitter, Taapsee said that it became huge. “I guess, as women, we have been seen through male benchmarks so much that whenever something like this happens, our antenna is up,” she stated.

Meanwhile, currently, Taapsee is geared up for the release of her upcoming film ‘Thappad’ which is helmed by Anubhav Sinha. The film will hit the screens on February 28, 2020.
