She entered the film industry as an assistant director to ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and went on to become his muse. We’re talking about the gorgeous starlet Sonam Kapoor. Her fate seems quite inevitable when you consider the fact that Sonam comes from a filmy family: her father Anil Kapoor is an acclaimed actor; while uncle Boney Kapoor and grandfather are producers.

Sonam began as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black starring Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan. The director then signed her for his next film. Sonam was overweight then (she weighed 86 kg) and took some time off to shape up for the film, debuting as the docile and shy Sakina opposite debutant Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya (2007).

In 2009, she appeared on-screen again, this time with Abhishek Bachchan in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6. Her spunky attitude as Bittu Sharma and her ‘Masakali’ dance with the dove are most memorable from the movie.

Fast forward to 2010. Sonam began this year on a high note with Imran Khan in I Hate Luv Storys, where real life inspired reel-life as she played the role of an assistant director in the romantic comedy. All of a sudden Sonam has become hot property and is already paired with Shahid Kapoor in Mausam.

Aisha is special for Sonam since it will be a family affair: her sister Rhea and father Anil are producers of the film. In the film, based on Jane Austen’s novel ‘Emma’, Sonam plays the stylish match-making Delhiite, Aisha. The film releases on 6th August, 2010.
