From Hollywood to Tollywood, the Hindi film industry has never shied away from looking outwards for inspiration for its films.
Singham, which releases on 22 July, is the remake of its Tamil namesake Singam. Ajay Devgan plays the role of the tough-as-nails cop in the Hindi film while Suriya was the policeman in the Tamil version. Koimoi.com takes a look at some other south Indian films which inspired Bollywood:
Ready – remake of Ready (Telugu)

Salman Khan’s latest hit Ready was a remake of a Telugu film with the same name.
Wanted – remake of Pokiri (Telugu)

Even Salman’s return as the raw action star in Wanted, was a remake of the Telugu Pokiri.
Ghajini – remake of Ghajini (Tamil)

Aamir Khan’s love-action story Ghajini not only imported the story from the Tamil movie with the same name, it also got south Indian actress Asin in Bollywood!
Billu – remake of Katha Parayumbol (Malayalam)

Even Shah Rukh Khan’s amplified super-star persona in Billu was a retelling of the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa – remake of Manichitratazhu (Malayalam)

Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa took inspiration from the Malayalam film Manichitratazhu.
Sunday – remake of Anukokunda Oka Roju (Telugu)

Ajay Devgan starred in another south remake, Sunday. And it was with Rohit Shetty as director! The comedy film was a remake of the Telugu film Anukokunda Oka Roju.
