While Bollywood celebs have been contributing their bit to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan co-star Shikha Malhotra has decided to be at the forefront of this fight. The actress has joined in as a medical nurse and taking care of the patients tested positive with the virus.

Shikha Malhotra starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan in his film fan as a supporting actor. The actress is now serving as a nurse and not charging even a penny for it, just to give her service to the needy in the Balasaheb Thackeray Hospital.

According to a report in Navbharat times, Shikha is a Bsc (Hons) in nursing. The actress after the pandemic broke in the country applied in Kokilaben Dirubhai Ambani Hospital, Coper Hospital and Balasaheb Thackeray Hospital who welcomed her to serve.

Talking about the situation, she said, “It did not strike me initially when the Prime Minister gave a call for Janata Curfew. It was only after the PM announced the 21-day lockdown to contain the virus, that I realised the enormity of the situation.”

She added, “I realised everything is not normal when the country was going for 21-days of lockdown. That means, patients will keep coming and there will be a shortage of nurses at hospitals.”

Shikha had to see a total 45 patients in the hospital that were battling with the virus on the first day. She expressed how medical students take an oath to be available at the time of crisis and she felt the time was here to fulfil it. She also opened up how she jumped into the job just after three hours of joining once she was taught all the necessary precautions. She said, “I would not have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I sat back at home.”

Shikha spoke about the difficulties in serving the patients but she feels proud that she can do that. The actress also pledges to do the same till the time lockdown is lifted, even if takes more than 2-3 months.

For the unversed, Shikha herself has survived a paralytic attack at the age of 13. Talking about the same she said, “I was confined to the bed and wheel chair for three years. I had to leave studies. I battled with the handicap and came out of it and completed my Std 11, 12 course after recovering.”
