Sarbjit Trailer Review: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – Randeep Hooda Impress In This Commercial Biopic

Soon we are shown a de-glamorous Aishwarya in search of her missing brother, who is captured in Pakistan after her drifts across the border one night. While the story of Sarabjit Singh is worth telling, the trailer seems to focus more on featuring Aishwarya’s acting prowess and her power to bring to life, the frustrated and noteworthy life of Dalbir more than anything else.

It impresses us with the lead cast and their act but as a narrative what it lacks on a primary level is giving us a taste of the gruesome politics that was involved in the Sarabjit’s case. From the look of it, the trailer is more of a crowd pleaser topped with elements that make you pity and empathetic to the characters.

I wish Omung had been a little bolder considering we are living in the times of Kanhaiya Kumar and if JNU students can cook up a storm, a powerful medium like cinema needs to pull up its socks and give us a 360 degree view of a controversial story as this. Definitely, there’s more to show in this tale than a few shots of a broken-down Aish looking for some hope.

From a cinematic perspective, Aishwarya and Randeep both put up an impressive show. Brief moments featuring Darshan Kumar too seem intriguing.

Overall, Sarbjit comes across as more of a commercial biopic from its trailer, hopefully there will be a hard-hitting side to it as a film.
